Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, diving into the aftermath of the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This new narrative will follow the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy reeling from conflict.
Penned by acclaimed writer Alex Segura, who previously crafted the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, the new volume promises fresh adventures. The series will be brought to life by the talented artist Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto, along with Leinil Yu, will also provide captivating cover art for the first issue.
Set roughly two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars explores a galaxy in transition. With the New Republic emerging as the new governing power, our heroes face a myriad of new challenges. From opportunistic pirates and thieves to other nefarious villains, the power vacuum left by the Empire's defeat creates fertile ground for chaos and conflict.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
“Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them,” Noto remarked. “I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, when Star Wars #1 hits the shelves, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
Marvel isn't stopping there; they're also launching Star Wars: Legacy of Vader in February 2025, which will delve into Kylo Ren's journey post-The Last Jedi.
