Apple has officially announced the renewal of the critically acclaimed series "Severance" for a third season. Created by Ben Stiller and Dan Erickson, this sci-fi psychological thriller remains the most-watched show on Apple TV+. The recently concluded second season set records as the platform's highest-viewed series yet.
"Making Severance has been one of the most creatively thrilling experiences I’ve ever had," shared Stiller. "Though I can’t recall it, I’m assured that creating Season 3 will be equally enjoyable—though any memory of these upcoming events will vanish from my mind forever."
Adam Scott, who stars and serves as an executive producer, expressed his excitement about returning to the project. "Getting back together with the team is fantastic," he quipped, adding tongue-in-cheek, "Oh, and if you happen to spot my inner self, please keep this under wraps. Much appreciated!"
Season 3 is currently available upon request, as noted by Tim Cook via Twitter.
According to Apple’s official synopsis, "Severance" follows Mark Scout (played by Scott), who works at Lumon Industries. Employees there have undergone a severance procedure dividing their memories between professional and personal spheres. As Mark delves deeper into an unfolding mystery, he begins questioning the boundaries of his existence.
Season 2 expanded its ensemble with new additions Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, exploring darker themes tied to the severance concept. No release date for Season 3 has been confirmed, but Ben Stiller hinted during a podcast appearance that production timelines will differ from the lengthy three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Factors such as strikes delayed progress on Season 2, which required 186 days of filming and extensive post-production.
In the meantime, fans can revisit IGN’s analysis of the Season 2 finale to speculate on potential Season 3 developments.
