Matajuegos has exciting news for fans of innovative gaming: their surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. Eager players can already pre-register on the Steam page, with Google Play expected to follow suit soon.
Hailing from Argentina, the indie co-op Matajuegos first released Atuel on itch.io in September 2022. The game quickly caught the eye of the gaming community for its unique fusion of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and mesmerizing, dreamlike visuals.
Atuel's innovative approach earned it the 'Innovation in Experience Design Award' at IndieCade 2022, along with numerous other accolades. It has also been showcased at prestigious events such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Atuel immerses players in the story of the Atuel River Valley in Argentina, a region of striking beauty that's facing the challenges of climate change. The game is less about traditional gameplay and more about an immersive experience where you transform into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, becoming an integral part of the landscape.
You might find yourself soaring through the skies one moment and flowing as the river the next. The game also features real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and locals, discussing the region's history, current state, and the future shaped by climate change.
To bring these stories to life, Matajuegos partnered with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project. The visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly feel that sets Atuel apart.
