Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Receives Classic Modes and Map, Plus Post-Launch Updates

Following its recent release, Black Ops 6 is adding two highly-anticipated game modes and a beloved map this week. Treyarch, the developer, announced via Twitter (X) that the popular "Infected" mode will launch tomorrow, followed by the iconic Nuketown map on November 1st.

Infected, a staple in the Call of Duty franchise, pits survivors against AI-controlled zombies. Nuketown, first introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops (2010), is a multiplayer map set in a 1950s-era nuclear test site. Activision previously confirmed their commitment to regular post-launch content updates for Black Ops 6. The game initially launched with 11 standard multiplayer modes, including variations with disabled Scorestreaks and a Hardcore mode.

Addressing Post-Launch Issues

Black Ops 6's first post-launch update addressed several issues across multiplayer and Zombies modes. Improvements include increased XP and weapon XP rates in various game modes (Team Deathmatch, Control, Search & Destroy, and Gunfight). Activision stated that they are actively monitoring XP rates to ensure fair progression. The update also resolved several bugs, including:

  • Global: Loadout highlighting, Bailey operator animation, and the "Mute Licensed Music" setting functionality.
  • Maps: Exploits allowing players to leave the designated play area on Babylon, Lowtown, and Red Card maps. Stability improvements were also made to Red Card and general in-game interactions.
  • Multiplayer: Matchmaking issues preventing quick player replacements, Private Match forfeits with zero players on a team, and the continuous Dreadnought missile sound effect.

While some issues, such as player death upon loadout selection in Search & Destroy, remain, developers Treyarch and Raven Software are actively working on resolving them. Despite these initial challenges, Black Ops 6 has been widely praised, particularly for its enjoyable campaign.
