Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

May 18,2025 Author: Sebastian

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will greatly influence the rest of your campaign. Both characters present compelling reasons for suspicion, yet there's a definitive choice that simplifies the quest significantly.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, it's advisable to confront Wakasa, as she is the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Confronting her directly leads to an easier resolution of her identity, allowing you to eliminate her swiftly.

When you choose to confront Wakasa, she will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Upon entering, you'll notice a crucial clue—the kasa (straw hat) she wore during the prologue as the Onryo, hanging on her wall. This confirms your choice.

Following some dialogue, the scene culminates in Naoe being able to end the mission quickly by taking Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If, after the tea ceremony, you mistakenly choose to confront Otama as the Golden Teppo, you'll still end up killing Wakasa, but your path will be much more challenging. Confronting Otama leads Naoe to chase her down and kill her, only to find a letter revealing her corruption. Meanwhile, Wakasa escapes and fortifies herself in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you must journey to Osaka Castle and either engage her soldiers in combat or attempt to sneak past them. If you've unlocked the Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, the journey is slightly easier, though you'll still face some opposition.

Even if you manage to sneak up on Wakasa, a direct confrontation is unavoidable. While the ensuing boss fight isn't overly difficult, confronting Wakasa directly from the start is far less troublesome and offers a more satisfying cinematic conclusion, especially considering her role in Naoe's father's death.

Now that you're equipped with the best strategy post-Tea Ceremony, consider learning how to gain XP and level up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* to prepare for more challenging missions. Additionally, explore ways to earn more Knowledge Points, unlocking more skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
