The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, a triumphant winner of 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who brilliantly portrayed pilot John Blackthorn, is set to reprise his role and step into the shoes of a co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.
Adding to the excitement, Hiroyuki Sanada, who leads the cast and committed to the new season last May following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the role of executive producer. This follows his contribution to the production of the first season. Production for Season 2 is slated to kick off in January 2026, returning to the familiar filming location of Vancouver.
FX has teased that the upcoming season will embark on "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which itself was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons, stating:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) battled for his life as his adversaries within the Council of Regents plotted against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, captained by the English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), shifted the balance of power in Toranaga's favor, providing crucial strategic insights that helped him triumph in a pivotal civil war.
"Season two of Shōgun unfolds a decade later, delving deeper into the historically-inspired narrative of these two men from vastly different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined."
While fans eagerly await the continuation of this exceptional series, all signs point to a potential release by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to the next chapter of Shōgun.
