Pearl Abyss Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert, Opting for Independent Publishing

Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. This decision underscores the company's commitment to independent publishing.
The developer confirmed its self-publishing strategy in a statement to Eurogamer, referencing its previous quarterly earnings call. While acknowledging and valuing its business partnerships, Pearl Abyss emphasized its ongoing independent publishing plans and exploration of various collaborative opportunities.

No Official Release Date or Platform Confirmation
Despite speculation, Pearl Abyss clarified that no official release date has been set. The company plans to showcase a playable build to media this week in Paris and to the public at G-Star in November.
September investor meetings revealed Sony's attempt to secure Crimson Desert as a PS5 exclusive, potentially excluding Xbox for a period. However, Pearl Abyss's internal assessment projected greater profitability through self-publishing, leading to their rejection of the offer.
While a definitive platform list and release date remain unannounced, a PC, PlayStation, and Xbox launch is anticipated around Q2 2025.
