Dusk: A New Mobile Multiplayer App Aims to Disrupt the Market
Dusk, a newly funded mobile multiplayer app from entrepreneurs Bjarke Felbo and Sanjay Guruprasad, is aiming to capitalize on the booming mobile multiplayer market. This social platform allows users to quickly and easily play games and team up with friends.
Felbo and Guruprasad's previous venture, the Rune companion app for PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile, garnered five million installs before its closure, demonstrating their experience in the mobile gaming space. While Dusk differs significantly from Rune, this past success hints at their potential.
Dusk functions as a game creation platform, hosting custom-made games accessible directly within the app. Users can play these games and interact with friends through built-in chat features, creating a streamlined social gaming experience reminiscent of a smaller-scale Xbox Live or Steam.
The Key Challenge: Game Selection
Dusk's primary hurdle is its reliance on the quality and appeal of its custom-made games. While some titles, such as mini-golf and 3D racing, show promise, the absence of established, big-name games is a notable factor.
However, Dusk boasts a significant advantage: cross-play compatibility across browsers, iOS, and Android. With other social platforms like Discord actively integrating games, Dusk's simple, lightweight approach to connecting friends for mobile gaming could prove attractive. Only time will tell if this strategy will succeed.
