EA has introduced microtransactions to Skate during its latest alpha test, a significant update as the game approaches its release date announcement. As reported by Insider Gaming, Full Circle, the developer behind EA's free-to-play Skate revival, has implemented a system where players can purchase a virtual currency known as San Van Bucks. These bucks can then be used to acquire cosmetic items, enhancing the customization options available in the game. Full Circle is keen on ensuring that the microtransaction system is user-friendly, aiming for players to have a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." They have encouraged testers to provide feedback to help refine the experience before the game's early access launch.
In their communications, Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made during the alpha test will be converted back into San Van Bucks, ensuring that players can access their funds again at the start of early access. This move reflects Full Circle's commitment to maintaining a fair and enjoyable gaming environment.
Skate's early access is scheduled for 2025. Initially announced during EA Play in 2020, the game was described as being in its "very early" stages of development. Since that time, Full Circle has kept the community engaged with regular updates through closed community playtests and their ongoing "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially named the game 'skate.' and confirmed it would be released as a free-to-play title across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
