A Final Fantasy XIV player's exhaustive analysis of in-game dialogue reveals a surprising chattiest character: Alphinaud. This comprehensive study, encompassing all expansions from A Realm Reborn to Dawntrail, unearthed unexpected results for many veteran players.
The sheer volume of dialogue in Final Fantasy XIV, a game spanning over a decade, made this undertaking a significant challenge. The game's history is complex, beginning with the poorly received 1.0 version in 2010. A Realm Reborn (2.0), launched in 2013, marked a pivotal reboot after the 1.0 version's shutdown following the Dalamud moon's catastrophic impact on Eorzea.
Reddit user turn_a_blind_eye shared their findings, detailing dialogue counts per expansion and most frequent words used by key characters. Alphinaud, a consistently prominent figure across expansions, unsurprisingly claimed the top spot for overall dialogue. However, the results yielded some surprising placements. Wuk Lamat, introduced late in Endwalker and heavily featured in Dawntrail, secured a remarkable third place, outperforming established favorites like Y'shtola and Thancred. This is largely attributed to Dawntrail's character-driven narrative. Even relative newcomer, Zero, surpassed the popular antagonist, Emet-Selch, in the overall top 20.
Urianger's linguistic quirks were also highlighted, his most common words being "tis," "thou," and "Loporrits"—the moon rabbits introduced in Endwalker, with whom he shares significant screen time.
Looking ahead, Final Fantasy XIV promises an exciting 2025. Patch 7.2 is anticipated early in the year, with Patch 7.3 expected to conclude the Dawntrail storyline.
