Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, spearheaded the trend of $70 AAA game pricing. Concerns exist that they might increase prices even further with Grand Theft Auto 6.
While the standard GTA 6 edition might remain in the $70 range, avoiding a price point of $80-$100, industry insiders suggest a premium edition priced at $100-$150 with early access could be offered.
According to Tez2, Rockstar/Take-Two already sell GTA Online and Red Dead Online separately. However, GTA 6 will be the first title to launch with online and story mode sold separately. The story mode will be part of a "complete package" encompassing both.
Pricing will need to account for the separate online component. The question remains: what portion of the base price will be attributed to the online component? And what will be the price for story mode access for those purchasing the standalone GTA 6 Online?
By lowering the price of the online version, Take-Two could attract players unable to afford the $70 or $80 full game. This presents a strategic advantage, as these players could then upgrade to access the story mode. Conversely, some players might want the story mode but lack the funds for the upgrade.
Take-Two could then offer a Game Pass-like subscription service, potentially leveraging GTA+. Players continuously engaging with the game instead of saving for an upgrade would generate additional revenue, further benefiting Take-Two.
