Reviews Surge as Sony Lifts Regional Restrictions

Positive reviews for Helldivers 2—the co-op third-person shooter by Arrowhead Game Studios and published by Sony—have skyrocketed in just 48 hours, as players celebrate its “liberation from the Sony blockade.” On Reddit, user Good_Policy352 received over 14,000 upvotes in a post titled “MAJOR ORDER: Change Negative Review After Region Unlock,” encouraging users to revise their negative ratings and welcome new players.
The original region lock controversy began over a year ago, when PlayStation Network (PSN) policies restricted regional access to purchased games. Sony’s enforcement of PSN account requirements to play already-owned titles sparked intense backlash from the gaming community.
In response, Helldivers 2 players launched a coordinated review campaign, amassing more than 200,000 negative reviews on its Steam page before Sony reversed its stance. Even so, PlayStation titles remained delisted from PC digital stores in certain regions, with refunds issued to affected customers.

God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2

After months of protests and advocacy, Sony has quietly lifted regional restrictions. Helldivers 2 wasn’t alone—updates to Steam’s database on June 13 confirmed that other major PlayStation exclusives, including God of War Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, are now accessible across all regions on PC.
Debate continues over whether Stellar Blade’s commercial success played a role in this decision, especially considering developer Shift Up’s reported resistance. However, Sony has not officially confirmed any connection, and no further titles have been announced for regional unblocking beyond this initial group.
