Idris Elba Pitches Cyberpunk 2077 Live-Action with Keanu Reeves

Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, has publicly expressed his strong desire for a live-action adaptation of the game, specifically one featuring himself and Keanu Reeves. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he also shares the screen with Reeves), Elba enthusiastically stated that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film starring himself and Reeves would be "Whoa." He suggested the on-screen chemistry between their characters would be electrifying.

Elba's enthusiasm isn't entirely unfounded. Variety reported in October 2023 that a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce a year after the announcement, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the live-action Witcher series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a viable and potentially lucrative venture.

For those unfamiliar, Reeves portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba played Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty expansion.
Beyond a potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. The manga is currently available in several languages, with an English version expected later. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also slated for 2025, and CD Projekt Red has hinted at a new animated series in development. The future of Cyberpunk looks bright across multiple media.
