Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has shattered its own concurrent player records on Steam daily since launch. This article explores the game's phenomenal success and its planned future updates.
A Triumphant Opening Weekend: Over 250,000 Concurrent Players
As of February 9th, 2025, KCD2 boasted over 250,000 concurrent Steam players, peaking at 256,206 according to Creative Director Daniel Vávra's Twitter (X) announcement. Each day from February 4th to 9th witnessed a new record:
- February 4th: 159,351 concurrent players
- February 5th: 176,285 concurrent players
- February 6th: 185,582 concurrent players
- February 7th: 190,194 concurrent players
- February 8th: 233,586 concurrent players
- February 9th: 256,206 concurrent players
Estimates suggest nearly 890,000 Steam sales alone, placing KCD2 as the second best-selling game on Steam (behind Counter-Strike 2) and fifth most-played (following CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana). With 1 million copies sold at launch, the game is likely approaching 2 million total sales.
Immersive Detail: The Key to Success

Warhorse Studios' meticulous attention to detail is a major factor in KCD2's success. Building on the series' reputation for realism (rotting food, soiled clothing, sword sharpening, etc.), KCD2 introduces further immersive elements.
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner highlighted a new stealth mechanic tied to accumulating dirt and grime, resulting in a "body odor" debuff that alerts nearby characters. The inclusion of "handgonnes," historically accurate early firearms with their inherent inaccuracy and long reload times, adds another layer of authenticity, even if intended as a somewhat humorous element.
PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling emphasized the game's commitment to authenticity over hyper-accuracy, aiming for a fun and engaging experience grounded in plausible historical detail.
A Robust Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios' post-launch roadmap ensures continued player engagement through 2025, featuring both free updates and paid DLC.
Free updates include a barber feature, hardcore mode, and horse racing (Spring 2025 release). Paid DLC will launch throughout the year: "Brushes with Death" (Summer), "Legacy of the Forge" (Autumn), and "Mysteria Ecclesiae" (Winter).
KCD2's remarkable opening weekend performance, coupled with its planned updates and DLC, positions the game for continued commercial success and potentially even higher player numbers.
