Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts: MageTrain. If you're a fan of Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay strikingly familiar, as it draws significant inspiration from that classic. This game blends the mechanics of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a fast-paced pixel art adventure.
What’s MageTrain Like?
In MageTrain, you command a line of heroes that trail behind you, much like a snake. As you navigate through the arena, each hero automatically attacks enemies. Your role is crucial in managing the formation—deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their position in the train.
At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one who throws birds. Each hero brings different skills to the table, depending on their role within the group. You'll journey through eight distinct dungeons, battle against 28 enemy types, and harness 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your chances of survival.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate branching paths, make strategic choices about upgrades, and strive to last as long as possible. This structure is reminiscent of games like Slay the Spire or FTL, where levels are not fixed, and there's no option to save your progress. A single mistake, whether it's crashing into an obstacle or being overrun by enemies, means starting over from scratch.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't make it to the end. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Dive into the action by downloading it from the Google Play Store.
