Fumi Games and PlaySide Studio have unveiled new details about MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, a title already turning heads thanks to its visual style inspired by 1930s cartoons.
This noir-tinged first-person shooter casts players as private eye Jack Pepper, who unravels mysterious cases in a world alive with jazz and unpredictable events. In a notable move, the developers confirmed on the game's official X page that MOUSE: P.I. For Hire will not feature any microtransactions, stating clearly:
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire will NOT include microtransactions. We are crafting a premium single-player shooter, rich with noir atmosphere and explosive combat, into which we are pouring our hearts.
While an unusual point to emphasize for a single-player indie shooter—a genre where such monetization is rarely expected—the statement appears to be a deliberate effort to refocus attention on the game's core values.
Drawing direct inspiration from vintage 1930s cartoons, MOUSE presents a gritty, noir-infused first-person shooter experience. Its unique art style, heavily influenced by the rubber hose animation of the era, transports players back to the early days of animation.
Step into the shoes of a private investigator navigating a corrupt city overrun by mobs, gangs, and other shady figures. Wield an array of weapons, power-ups, and explosives to thwart corrupt politicians in a metropolis bubbling with chaos, corruption, and infectious energy. The game injects humor into classic FPS action through its whimsical arsenal, distinctive health display, and cartoonish enemies.
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is slated for a 2025 release, though a specific launch date has yet to be announced.
