Nintendo has announced which original Switch games will receive complimentary performance enhancements on the Switch 2, detailing the specific improvements fans can anticipate.
Titles including Arms, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom are all scheduled to receive performance boosts on the new console.
Here is the official statement from Nintendo's website:
By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update, you can download free updates for selected games that may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare. The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game.
It's important to note these are free enhancements, distinct from the premium "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades (which are offered for free to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the case of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom).
So, what specific upgrades can Switch 2 owners look forward to? For Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, players will experience enhanced image quality on high-resolution TVs and a smoother, improved framerate.
Super Mario Odyssey, meanwhile, gains HDR support and GameShare functionality, allowing two players to cooperate online with one controlling Mario and the other controlling Cappy. Full details are listed below.
Interestingly, the official list makes no mention of framerate fixes for the two top-down Zelda titles, a notable and disappointing oversight given their documented performance issues.
