Nintendo has officially announced that the upcoming Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This extended runtime is notably longer than typical Nintendo Direct broadcasts, indicating that Nintendo has a substantial lineup of announcements planned for this highly anticipated event.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, 2025, at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST. According to Nintendo, this presentation will provide a detailed look at the Switch 2, building on the brief console reveal earlier this year.
That initial teaser showcased the Switch 2's design, offered a glimpse of what appears to be Mario Kart 9, and hinted at a potential 'mouse' functionality for the new Joy-Con controllers.
Despite these reveals, several key questions about the Switch 2 remain unanswered, including the purpose of the mysterious new 'C' button on the Joy-Con, the console's processing power, and the functionality of its newly added ports.
This Nintendo Direct is also expected to unveil the full Switch 2 launch game roster and confirm the release date, which is widely predicted to fall between June and September 2025. Many are also hoping for an official price announcement, with industry analysts projecting a $400 launch price.
We are gradually getting a clearer picture of the games expected to launch on the Switch 2. There is an extensive list of rumored third-party titles heading to the console. In an interview with IGN, developers from Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization 7, described the Joy-Con's rumored mouse mode as "definitely intriguing." Additionally, the French publisher Nacon, known for games like Greedfall 2 and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 titles in development. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also heavily rumored for a Switch 2 release. Furthermore, EA has stated that major franchises like Madden, FC (FIFA), and The Sims would be excellent fits for the new console.
Last week's announcement of a new Virtual Game Cards feature for sharing games between consoles also sparked discussion, particularly regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, due to a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage.
In related news, Nintendo has confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live event focused on the Nintendo Switch 2. This hands-on gameplay presentation will take place on April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
