PC Games That Play Better With A Controller

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse control, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are arguably better experienced with a controller. Games emphasizing fast-paced action, reflex-based movement, or melee combat often lend themselves well to gamepad controls, especially if the franchise originated on consoles.

While most PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain titles are enhanced by a controller's intuitive feel. This is especially true for genres traditionally associated with console gaming.

Recent Releases and Upcoming Titles Potentially Better with Controllers:

The end of 2024 saw several high-profile releases (Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force), many of which are arguably better suited to keyboard and mouse. However, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered might offer a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, though the difference isn't substantial.

Several upcoming PC games show promise for controller play:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port following the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series generally plays better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the controller-centric nature of its predecessor, a similar experience is anticipated.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PS5 port to PC, typically implying a controller-first design, though keyboard and mouse should also function well.

A Note on 2024 Soulslike Games:

A 2024 Soulslike game has been included in this article. (See "Another Crab's Treasure" below for details).
