The first crew members you'll recruit are Serafin and Bliss. Serafin, though a constant presence, isn't typically available for contracts. Both are automatically unlocked without any recruitment achievements tied to them.
You'll meet Juni as a temporary crew member on Hexport. After a brief departure, you can permanently recruit Juni at Helion Gate. Completing the Idle Minds clock at Solheim Records triggers a cutscene with Juni. Finish the subsequent contract and invite Juni back to your crew. This unlocks the Data Archaeologist achievement.
Encounter Yu-Jin on Far Spindle after completing the Getting Wracked clock at Gaia's Gyre by ordering a Wrack four times, costing a total of 16 Cryo. After finishing the contract Yu-Jin offers, you can recruit him permanently, unlocking The Freelancer achievement.
During the Aphelion Beacon contract, you have the option to leave Yu-Jin behind, which allows you to recruit Luis instead. Recruiting Luis unlocks the Signalchaser achievement.
You'll first meet Kadet on Far Spindle after completing the Spindle Core clock. This unlocks the Stripline Express location. After the subsequent cutscene and completing tasks at Stripline Express, head to Scatteryards in The Belt to recruit Kadet, unlocking The Spindlejack achievement.
Femi and Nia can both be recruited, but you must choose one. Initially, work with Nia on Hexport, where you'll also encounter Femi. Later on Floatsam, Femi will offer a contract to ensure Nia's safety. Upon completion, choose between Femi (unlocking the Big Brother achievement) or Nia (unlocking the Little Sister achievement).
After your first visit to Olivera, a contract leads you to investigate Flint's disappearance. This involves setting a trap for an enemy. Follow Xander to rescue Flint, and upon succeeding in the subsequent contract, you can recruit Flint, unlocking the Fugitive achievement.
