Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw – A CES 2025 Reveal
Leaked specifications suggest Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card will pack a powerful punch. Sources indicate it will boast a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. This high-performance comes at a cost, however, with a substantial 575W power draw. The official unveiling of the RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, is scheduled for Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series, codenamed Blackwell, represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics card lineup, launching over two years after the RTX 40 series. Building upon its predecessor, the new series will leverage proprietary Tensor Cores for AI processing, alongside features like DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). This launch follows the discontinuation of certain RTX 40 series models, such as the RTX 4090D and RTX 4070. The RTX 50 series will directly compete with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Pre-CES leaks, initially reported by VideoCardz, offered a glimpse of the RTX 5090 through Inno3D's iChill X3 RTX 5090. This three-fan AIB card occupies more than three expansion slots. Its packaging confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the significant 575W power requirement, a considerable jump from the RTX 4090's 450W.
The RTX 5090: High Memory, High Power, High Price?
Key features of the RTX 5090, based on Inno3D's reveal, include:
- 32GB GDDR7 Memory: Double the anticipated memory of the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti.
- 575W Power Draw: Demands a high-capacity power supply.
- Official Reveal: January 6th, at CES 2025.
The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be available. While the specifications are impressive, the RTX 5090 is expected to carry a premium price tag, potentially starting at $1999 or higher. Nvidia has yet to confirm pricing.
The full RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti, will be showcased alongside the RTX 5090 during Nvidia's CES keynote. The consumer response to this new generation remains to be seen.
