The highly anticipated film *Rust*, starring Alec Baldwin, has finally released its first official trailer ahead of its theatrical release on May 2, 2025. The movie, set in 1880s Kansas, tells the story of Lucas McCalister (Patrick Scott McDermott), a young man who accidentally kills a rancher and is sentenced to hang. In a dramatic twist, his estranged grandfather, the infamous outlaw Harland Rust (Alec Baldwin), stages a daring rescue and sets them both on the run toward Mexico.

Chased by the relentless U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and the ruthless bounty hunter known as 'Preacher' (Travis Fimmel), the pair must navigate the treacherous wilderness while evading capture. As described in the official synopsis, this thrilling journey explores themes of family, survival, and redemption.

On October 22, 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on set when a prop gun used by Alec Baldwin discharged unexpectedly. This incident also resulted in injuries sustained by director Joel Souza.

Investigations revealed that the firearm, intended to be a "cold gun" without live ammunition, malfunctioned due to improper handling. Following the tragedy, charges were dropped against Baldwin in April 2023, while armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed faced legal consequences and received an 18-month prison sentence. First assistant director David Halls admitted guilt to a misdemeanor charge and was placed on probation.

Despite these challenges, *Rust* made its debut at Poland's Camerimage Film Festival in November 2024. During the screening, the film paid tribute to Hutchins in the credits. Though Baldwin did not attend, director Joel Souza honored her memory by expressing gratitude for her contributions to cinema. "We are here in a place she loved so much," he said, acknowledging the enduring impact of her work.
