Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, reflects a change in player preference towards PS5 games. The PlayStation Blog post stated that PS4 games will only be offered occasionally in the future for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and the Game Catalog. Existing subscribers will retain access to previously acquired games, and Games Catalog titles will remain playable until their removal from the catalog as part of the regular rotation.
Sony assures users that PlayStation Plus will continue to evolve, maintaining benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company anticipates adding new PS5 titles monthly.
