The boys are back in town - and by the boys, we mean Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman. South Park has officially confirmed its return for Season 27, and it appears our favorite Colorado crew is grappling with, well, current affairs. And by grappling, we mean barely managing.
The cherished animated series released a new trailer for the upcoming season, but cleverly tricked viewers into believing it was a dramatic preview of a new serious drama. The intense editing and soundtrack contributed to the ominous atmosphere... until Stan's dad Randy and his sister Shelley appear on screen, with Randy asking if she's been using drugs. "Because I think it could really help you," he remarks as they sit on her bed with a Wicked movie poster visible behind them.
South Park Season 27 premieres Wednesday, July 9th.Following this comedic moment, the visuals return to intense action, apparently hinting at several significant (and timely) season moments, including multiple major plane crashes, the toppling of the Statue of Liberty, an appearance by P. Diddy, and some form of conflict with Canada. To be honest, you've likely anticipated that last development if you're a long-time fan of the show, or even if you've just seen the 1999 film South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
The preview also confirms the season will debut on July 9, 2025, on Comedy Central, marking over two years since Season 26 concluded. The series has released three specials in the interim: 2023's South Park: Joining the Panderverse and South Park (Not Suitable for Children), plus 2024's South Park: The End of Obesity.
South Park celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022, having originally premiered on Comedy Central to almost immediate acclaim back in 1997.
