Splatoon 3 Updates Ending Fuels Splatoon 4 Release SpeculationNintendo's announcement of ending regular updates for Splatoon 3 has reignited speculation about a potential Splatoon 4.

Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates

Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes

Nintendo has confirmed the end of regular content updates for the acclaimed Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.

The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival on September 16th, commemorated by a video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio. Nintendo's closing remark, "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!" hinted at a significant shift.

With two years since Splatoon 3's September 9th launch, and Nintendo's shift away from active development, the anticipation for a sequel, specifically Splatoon 4, is intensifying.

Some players believe they've spotted potential easter eggs or hints of a new city within the Grand Festival event, fueling speculation about the setting for the next game. One fan commented on a metropolis-like location, suggesting, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others, however, remain unconvinced.

While no official announcement regarding Splatoon 4 exists, rumors have circulated for months, suggesting Nintendo's commencement of development on a new Switch title in the series. The Grand Festival, being Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest, further strengthens fan belief in an imminent sequel, possibly themed around "Past, Present, or Future," mirroring previous Final Fest influences on sequels. Until an official reveal, however, fans must remain patient.
