Temuera Morrison Expresses Disappointment Over Boba Fett's Absence in Star Wars Projects

What's next for Boba Fett? The iconic Star Wars character last appeared in his Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett, which concluded in February 2022. The show sparked mixed reactions, with some fans believing it softened the legendary bounty hunter's edge. Could this be the end for Boba Fett?
Three years on, prospects for The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 remain distant. Lucasfilm has not confirmed a second season, and the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film may offer the best hope for Boba Fett’s live-action return. While The Mandalorian Season 4 remains unconfirmed, a cameo there could be possible.
The future of Boba Fett and actor Temuera Morrison remains unclear. Morrison’s recent comments suggest little optimism for an imminent return.
In a Collider interview promoting his new film, Ka Whawhai Tonu (In The Fire of War), the 64-year-old New Zealander expressed sadness about not reprising Boba Fett since the series ended.
“What happened to The Book of Boba Fett Season 2? Where is it? I know Ahsoka Season 2 is in the works. I’m left wondering, ‘Where’s my season?’”
Per Collider, Morrison pitched Lucasfilm on including Boba Fett in Ahsoka Season 2, jokingly suggesting he could play Rex and remove his helmet, noting his role as both Boba Fett and the clones derived from the character.
Morrison recently met Star Wars creators Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, nudging them about Boba Fett’s status. Their vague response—“Well, well,” with little elaboration—left much unsaid.
The encounter gave Morrison the sense that he’s “been shelved for now, like a jar of peaches at grandma’s house, waiting to be enjoyed later.”

“That’s how I feel,” he added. “I’m preserved on the shelf, ready to be savored later.”
Morrison might be hinting at a return, though Lucasfilm’s secrecy is well-known—Rosario Dawson, for instance, was unaware of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker cameo in The Mandalorian until filming. Still, it seems no concrete plans exist for Boba Fett.
Last year, at Fan Expo Chicago’s From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters panel, Morrison suggested The Book of Boba Fett’s lukewarm reception might explain the character’s absence from The Mandalorian & Grogu film or a potential second season. Disney has not approached him for either project.
The Book of Boba Fett, which followed Boba Fett’s escape from the Sarlacc Pit and doubled as a partial season of The Mandalorian, ranked among the least popular Star Wars series. “The show’s reception seems to have shaped the character’s future,” Morrison noted in August 2024. Whether anything has shifted since remains uncertain.
Morrison first portrayed Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones before returning as Jango’s son and clone, Boba Fett. He’s voiced his eagerness to rejoin Star Wars, hoping for a role in The Mandalorian to mirror The Mandalorian’s appearance in his series.
