Exploration in Zenless Zone Zero primarily takes place within the Hollows, where monsters spawn due to Ether corruption. After New Eridu discovered how to profit from Ether, government entities, corporations, and gangs all compete to exploit it. This environment has given rise to Hollow Raiders, who venture into the Hollows to search for treasure and valuable resources.
Every playable character in ZZZ operates within the Hollows to some degree, meaning they all possess significant Ether Aptitude. Proxies can form partnerships with Agents from diverse backgrounds, including Hollow Raiders, construction firms, private institutions, government personnel, and security officers.
During the Closed Beta Test, characters did not have defined Specialties or Roles, instead featuring an Attack Type. As this proved confusing for many players, HoYoverse replaced the system with distinct roles for each Agent. However, each character retains an Attack Type, visible within their individual stat details.
