Krafton has taken a significant step to distance itself from the ongoing legal issues surrounding Ironmace Studios by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This name change primarily affects the title and likely some Dungeons & Dragons-specific elements, while the core gameplay mechanics remain untouched.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ironmace Studios is currently locked in a legal battle with Nexon, who alleges that Ironmace misused trade secrets. The crux of Nexon's claim is that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized assets and ideas from their previous employment to create Dark and Darker. The lawsuit continues to unfold, and as previously mentioned in February, there were hints that Dark and Darker Mobile might undergo a rebranding.
No differenceThe shift to Abyss of Dungeons does not alter the fundamental gameplay experience. Although Dark and Darker Mobile was already introducing changes such as a third-person perspective, fans can rest assured that the essence of the game remains intact.
This development might be disheartening for Ironmace enthusiasts. However, there's hope that the legal tussle will conclude soon, allowing fans to enjoy Abyss of Dungeons as a companion to the main PC version of Dark and Darker. With a soft launch planned for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico, anticipation is building.
