If your budget allows, the Switch OLED is a worthwhile upgrade over the non-OLED model. Its OLED screen delivers superior image quality with deeper blacks, more vibrant colors, and smoother gradients. Text also appears sharper and more legible. Although the screen size increase is modest (7 inches versus 6.2 inches), it feels significantly larger due to the much thinner bezels. Other notable improvements include a far more robust and adjustable kickstand, a built-in ethernet port on the dock, and a sleek white console with matching white Joy-Cons.
The new Nintendo Switch 2 is now on the market, but the original Switch remains a compelling choice. Firstly, the Switch 2 carries a significantly higher retail price of $449.99. Currently, there is only one major new exclusive game for it—Mario Kart World Tour—which retails for $79.99 unless you can find one of the $500 bundles that includes the game. While some existing titles offer visual and performance upgrades on the Switch 2, this alone may not justify the higher cost for many. Personally, I'm waiting to buy a Switch 2 until more must-play exclusive games are available or a special themed edition is released.
