Borderlands 4 Gets Own PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will have its dedicated State of Play today. In a tweet posted on April 29, PlayStation revealed that the Borderlands 4 State of Play will take place on April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST, streaming live on their official YouTube and Twitch channels. During the livestream, developers from Gearbox Software will delve into the details of the highly anticipated FPS sequel to the Borderlands series. A PlayStation.blog post from April 29 outlines that the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of "developer-guided gameplay," showcasing missions, powerful weapons, thrilling Action Skills, and both new and returning characters.

Launch Date Moved to September 12

Following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford shared a surprising update via a Twitter (X) video on April 29: Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved up to September 12. Although he quickly deleted the video and followed up with a tweet stating it was posted prematurely, the news spread fast.

In the video, Pitchford expressed that development has been exceptionally smooth, describing it as "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which led to the decision to advance the launch date. Initially, during PlayStation’s February State of Play, Borderlands 4 announced a release date of September 23. However, the game's official Twitter (X) account confirmed the new date, stating, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."

Gearbox Software is committed to delivering what they promise to be the greatest Borderlands game to date. With the release date now set sooner than initially planned, fans can look forward to exploring and causing chaos on the new planet of Kairos earlier than expected.
