Castlevania Dominus Collection Reviewed: Today's Releases and Sales

May 14,2025 Author: Daniel

Hello, dear readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 3rd, 2024. Today, we dive into several in-depth reviews, explore the latest releases, and highlight the newest sales and expiring discounts. Let's jump right in!

Reviews & Mini-Views

Castlevania Dominus Collection ($24.99)

Konami has truly excelled with its classic collections in recent years, and the Castlevania Dominus Collection is a testament to this effort. This collection focuses on the Nintendo DS trilogy, masterfully handled by M2, known for their meticulous work. The trilogy includes Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia, each with its unique flair and gameplay mechanics.

Dawn of Sorrow, a sequel to Aria of Sorrow, originally featured some cumbersome touchscreen gimmicks that have been smartly refined in this release. Portrait of Ruin shifts the touchscreen elements to a bonus mode, emphasizing its dual-character gameplay. Order of Ecclesia stands out with its increased difficulty and nods to Simon’s Quest.

These games are not emulated but natively ported, allowing M2 to enhance gameplay significantly. For instance, Dawn of Sorrow now uses button inputs instead of touchscreen seals, making it even more enjoyable. The collection also offers extensive options, including save states, rewind features, and a comprehensive compendium.

But the highlight is the inclusion of Haunted Castle and its remarkable remake, Haunted Castle Revisited. This new game, tucked away in the Extras tab, is a delightful surprise and showcases M2's ability to transform a flawed classic into a compelling new experience.

If you're a Castlevania fan, this collection is a must-have, featuring three beloved DS titles and an exceptional new game. It's a stellar release from Konami and M2.

SwitchArcade Score: 5/5

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn from Tengo Project brings the 8-bit classic into the modern era with notable enhancements. While the original Shadow of the Ninja was a solid action-platformer, this remake significantly improves upon its predecessor with better presentation and refined gameplay mechanics.

The ability to use both the chain and sword simultaneously is a welcome change, and the new inventory system adds depth to the gameplay. The game retains its challenging nature, perhaps even more so than the original, which may appeal to fans seeking a tough test of skill.

While Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn is the best version of the game available, its appeal largely depends on your affection for the original. Those new to the series might find it a competent but not groundbreaking action game.

SwitchArcade Score: 3.5/5

Pinball FX – The Princess Bride Pinball ($5.49)

The Princess Bride Pinball is a delightful addition to Pinball FX, especially with the recent update that improves the game's performance on Switch. This table captures the essence of the beloved film with real voice clips and video segments, making it a standout among licensed tables.

The gameplay is straightforward yet engaging, offering a satisfying experience for both newcomers and seasoned pinball enthusiasts. If you're a fan of The Princess Bride and enjoy pinball, this table is well worth checking out.

SwitchArcade Score: 4.5/5

Pinball FX – Goat Simulator Pinball ($5.49)

Goat Simulator Pinball brings the quirky humor of the Goat Simulator series to the pinball realm. The table is filled with absurd goat-related antics, making it a unique and entertaining experience.

However, its complexity might be challenging for newcomers. Veteran pinball players will likely appreciate the table's depth and humor once they master its mechanics. It's a fun and offbeat addition to the Pinball FX lineup.

SwitchArcade Score: 4/5

Bakeru ($39.99)

Bakeru is a charming 3D platformer from Good-Feel that follows a tanuki on a mission to save Japan. With its breezy gameplay, interesting Japan trivia, and humorous moments, it's a delightful experience. The only downside is the inconsistent framerate on the Switch, which might deter some players.

Holyhunt ($4.99)

Holyhunt is a top-down twin-stick shooter with an 8-bit aesthetic. While it may not be a nostalgic throwback to many, it offers straightforward, action-packed gameplay that can be quite enjoyable.

Shashingo: Learn Japanese with Photography ($20.00)

Shashingo is a unique language-learning app that uses photography to teach Japanese. While it's a bit pricey, it offers an engaging way to learn for those interested in the language.
