Survival of the Fittest is one of the most challenging tasks in Phasmophobia to date, primarily because it strips players of crucial resources. The challenge requires you to correctly identify the ghost without traditional evidence or the safety net of sanity.

The setting for this challenge is 42 Edgefield Road, a house-style map notorious for its narrow hallways, blind corners, and claustrophobic feel, making it harder to track and evade the ghost.

Upon arriving at the location, remember that you won't have access to standard evidence-gathering tools like Ghost Writing Books or DOTS Projectors. Not even Video Cameras are provided for additional surveillance.

Instead, focus on the ghost's unique behaviors, such as movement speed and ghost model, to identify it. Tools like the Parabolic Microphone can help detect specific sounds from ghosts like Banshees or Mylings. Using Salt on the floor can confirm the presence of a Wraith, and lighting three Firelights in a row might reveal an Onyro. You start with virtually no setup time and zero sanity, making you immediately susceptible to ghost hunts. Sanity cannot be restored, despite the two Sanity Medications provided. Expect high ghost activity and frequent events, which, while frightening, can aid in identifying the ghost's behavior. Note that the ghost's favorite room remains constant throughout the challenge.

Most doors will be partially open, complicating the detection of the ghost's location. However, the fuse box will be functional and powered on, which is a significant advantage. All nine hiding spots in 42 Edgefield Road will be available, providing ample opportunities to hide during hunts.

You'll have access to the Monkey Paw as your Cursed Possession. Using it to "wish for knowledge" can eliminate incorrect evidences and ghost types in your Journal, aiding in your identification process. However, this wish comes at a high cost: temporary blindness and deafness, plus a Cursed Hunt near you. This strategy is best suited for groups where one player can act as a sacrifice.

How to Access Challenge Mode in Phasmophobia

To engage in Challenge Mode, navigate to the Difficulty Settings in the Main Menu. Choose either Singleplayer or Multiplayer to start a new lobby, then select the Difficulty tab. Scroll to Challenge Mode, apply it, and then select 42 Edgefield Road from the Maps board. Remember, you must complete the challenge three times to receive the full $5,000 reward, and correctly identifying the ghost is the only requirement.
