First Revealed in December 2024

The Witcher 4 made waves when it was first announced at the Game Awards in December 2024. The announcement trailer showcased the new protagonist, Ciri, sparking a wave of discussions and debates within the community, as the previous three games featured Geralt as the lead.
In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the fan reactions to Ciri's new role. Weber, who also enjoyed playing Geralt in the past, understands the fans' sentiments. He assured that the team is committed to addressing these concerns in future reveals.
Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed gratitude to those who supported the decision to make Ciri the lead. He noted, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."
According to the developers, The Witcher 4 aims to be the most ambitious entry in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.
