Marvel Snap's New Publisher Skystone Replaces Nuverse

  • Second Dinner has officially ended its publishing partnership with Nuverse for Marvel Snap
  • The developer has now teamed up with U.S.-based publisher Skystone Games
  • This concludes an extraordinary chain of events following the TikTok ban affecting Bytedance

Following Marvel Snap's unexpected removal from app stores amid Bytedance's TikTok strategy, developer Second Dinner has officially parted ways with publisher Nuverse. In a statement posted on their official Twitter account, Second Dinner announced a new partnership with U.S.-based publisher Skystone Games.

This development marks the culmination of a remarkable sequence of events for several titles published by Nuverse and other Bytedance subsidiaries, including Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Marvel Snap. These games were caught in the crossfire of the TikTok ban several weeks ago. Bytedance's decision to restrict access to popular apps appeared to be a strategic move, which prompted then President-elect Donald Trump to vow to restore service.

This represented a significant shift from his earlier efforts to ban Bytedance's flagship app. While TikTok was reinstated relatively smoothly, other gaming services faced uncertainty. Second Dinner, in particular, was not informed in advance about Snap's removal and has spent recent weeks working to bring the game back online.

Second Dinner's decision to sever ties with Nuverse comes as no surprise. Although Bytedance's TikTok strategy proved successful for the company, many developers were undoubtedly displeased by the sudden and disruptive nature of the app removals. The swiftness of this transition suggests that Nuverse is likely managing significant fallout from its development partners behind the scenes.

While it's tempting to delve into broader geopolitical discussions, a more immediate question is whether Bytedance's determination to preserve TikTok has compromised its highly publicized gaming ambitions. Second Dinner's actions certainly suggest this may be the case.
