In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, traversing vast battlefields to rescue fellow officers and clinch victory is a common challenge. Although there isn't a direct sprint button—your character automatically sprints after running for a few moments—a more efficient way to cover these expansive terrains is by utilizing your trusty steed. Your horse can be summoned at any time, whether you're navigating the overworld or in the thick of battle. It also allows for dynamic hit-and-run combat strategies. Here's everything you need to know about unlocking, leveling up, and switching your horses in the game.
How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward and comes at no cost. During Chapter 1, after you've completed the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld as you journey toward the Battle Of Guangzong. You'll find him northeast of Wan Castle but before reaching the camp, standing next to his horse. Simply engage in conversation with the merchant, and he'll gift you your first horse, which will automatically be equipped.
Summoning your horse is easy; press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or hit the 'V' key if you're using a keyboard.
How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is tied to your performance in missions and main story battles. As long as your horse is equipped, it will earn XP, regardless of whether you use it during the battle. Note that completing Skirmishes won't contribute to your horse's XP. Missions, marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon, are your go-to for medium-length engagements that boost your horse's experience. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration, how frequently you ride it, and how effectively you use it to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it gains access to unique buffs at various intervals, which differ between horses.
How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Your initial horse is automatically equipped, but Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers the chance to acquire and switch to different steeds. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, where you'll find the horse option at the bottom of the list on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with unique perks, and some may be faster or offer better advantages than others, so it's wise to consider switching when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you must maximize the peace level of a region, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
