EA Sports FC 25 Gameplay Overhauled

Electronic Arts' soccer simulators, particularly EA Sports FC 25, have faced substantial criticism, not only for their monetization practices but also for their technical performance. In response to the outcry, the developers have rolled out a comprehensive "Gameplay Refresh Update" that includes over 50 modifications to enhance the game mechanics. These updates aim to address numerous player concerns and improve the overall gaming experience.

Key changes in the update include significant adjustments to core gameplay systems such as assists, shots, goalkeeper play, and defensive strategies. Common issues where defenders were unrealistically catching up to ball carriers have been corrected, leading to more realistic gameplay. Offensive play has been made smoother, making it easier to maneuver the ball during attacks. The frequency of reverse tackles and AI interceptions has been reduced, and the effectiveness of crossing passes has been dialed back to encourage more varied play styles. Additionally, players now offer quicker support when playing in familiar roles, and offside detection for AI-controlled offensive runs has been refined. Lastly, the accuracy of normal and aimed shots from outside the penalty area in straightforward conditions has been slightly improved.

Despite these efforts, only 36% of the 474 player reviews at the launch of EA FC 25 were positive, indicating widespread dissatisfaction. Players have heavily criticized Electronic Arts for perceived greed, alongside numerous bugs, crashes, and issues with PlayStation controller recognition. Moreover, the game's anti-cheat system has rendered it incompatible with the Steam Deck, further frustrating fans who prefer gaming on this platform.
