Open Drive, the innovative racing game for mobile, is now available in early access on Android. Developed by SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to helping physically disabled players access video games, in collaboration with Sun & Moon Studios, Open Drive is more than just a game—it's a testament to inclusivity and accessibility in gaming.
Open Drive is designed to be adaptable, allowing players to enjoy the game using a variety of input methods. Whether you prefer touch controls, keyboard and mouse, switch access, or a controller, the game is built to cater to your needs. This inclusivity extends to players who use alternative input methods such as eye gaze, making Open Drive a pioneering mobile game in accessibility.
A standout feature is the mobile-specific eye control, where players can steer using an eye gaze camera by simply looking left or right. This feature is a significant step forward for players with physical challenges who are often excluded from games that only support touch or gamepad inputs. Eye control is available across all four open worlds in the game: Stunt, Speed, Snow, and Meadow.
The gameplay in Open Drive is highly flexible, allowing you to explore at your own pace, collecting orbs or chasing high scores with daring jumps using vehicles like the Roadster, Trickster, or Speedster. You can also adjust the speed to your liking. To get a glimpse of what Open Drive offers, check out the early access announcement trailers below.
Open Drive's early access version on Android automatically detects and adjusts to your preferred control method. It fully supports Switch Access on Android, ensuring a seamless gaming experience. The game offers tailored setups for each input method, including 'Precise' and 'Classic' touch control modes, as well as configurations for Switch Access, mouse, keyboard, and Android-compatible gamepads/controllers.
While the eye control functionality is not fully implemented in the early access version, it is expected to be available once the full version launches later this summer. You can currently explore Open Drive on the Google Play Store and experience its innovative approach to gaming accessibility.
