In Nintendo's latest Creator's Voice series episode, Final Fantasy Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed exciting news - Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will launch on the upcoming Switch 2 platform.
Intergrade represents the enhanced PlayStation 5 edition of 2020's PlayStation 4 title Final Fantasy VII Remake, which reimagined the opening chapter of the iconic 1997 RPG. This expanded version delivers visual upgrades to lighting and graphics while bundling the Intermission DLC featuring Yuffie's thrilling Midgar infiltration story.
While currently available on PS5 and PC, Hamaguchi explained how Switch 2's technical advancements make this ambitious port possible. "The Switch 2's capabilities finally allow us to recreate Midgar at full specification," the director revealed.
"Imagine experiencing this adventure during your morning commute," Hamaguchi remarked, highlighting handheld play's convenience for sharing progress with fellow fans.
The Switch 2 edition will introduce GameChat functionality, enabling real-time voice communication and screen sharing between players. "Seeing Final Fantasy come to life on portable hardware fills me with excitement," Hamaguchi shared, expressing optimism about strengthening Nintendo and Final Fantasy's partnership.
Though only Intergrade has been officially announced, Hamaguchi hinted at broader possibilities: "We hope players anticipate experiencing the full Remake trilogy on Switch 2," subtly suggesting future ports of Rebirth and the concluding chapter.
This marks a significant homecoming - the franchise that debuted on Nintendo systems before PlayStation's CD-ROM revolution with FFVII's 3D leap may complete its circle by returning Final Fantasy VII to Nintendo hardware through these acclaimed remakes.
