Recent reports from Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, suggest a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is in development, a joint venture between Square Enix and Tencent. This follows earlier, unconfirmed reports of such a collaboration.

The report lists the game among 15 titles approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for release within the country.
