Fortnite Revamps Master Chief Skin Again

***Fortnite*** has reinstated the unlockable Matte Black style for The Master Chief skin following significant backlash from the community. Initially, Epic Games had announced that this style would no longer be available, but due to fan outcry, they have reversed their decision, allowing players to unlock the Matte Black style once again.

December is an exciting month for *Fortnite* enthusiasts, with the Winterfest event bringing a slew of new NPCs, quests, items, and more to the game. While this year's event has been well-received, the return of certain skins has stirred controversy. Amidst this, Epic Games provided an update on the Master Chief skin.

In a recent tweet, *Fortnite* shared good news for fans eager to obtain the Master Chief skin. First introduced in *Fortnite* in 2020, the skin quickly became a fan favorite. Although it was last seen in the Item Shop in 2022, its return in 2024 was met with enthusiasm. However, on December 23, Epic Games announced that the Matte Black style for the skin would no longer be unlockable, a change from the original 2020 announcement that players could unlock this style at any time after purchasing the skin and playing on Xbox Series X/S. Fortunately, Epic Games has now reversed this decision, reaffirming that players can still unlock the Matte Black style as initially promised.

The Master Chief Skin Had a Controversial Return to Fortnite

The initial announcement to remove the Matte Black style was met with significant discontent from the *Fortnite* community. Many fans expressed concerns that this move could lead to issues with the FTC, especially in light of recent FTC actions against Epic Games, including a $72 million refund to *Fortnite* players due to the use of "dark patterns." The change affected not only new buyers but also those who had purchased the skin back in 2020, preventing them from unlocking the style they were originally promised.

This is not the only skin causing controversy recently. The return of the Renegade Raider skin also sparked debate, with some long-time *Fortnite* players threatening to leave the game. Additionally, some fans are now calling for an OG style for those who purchased the Master Chief skin at its launch. While Epic Games has addressed the Matte Black style issue, the likelihood of adding an OG style remains low.
