NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The service will cease operations on April 30th, 2025, with in-app purchases and downloads already disabled. Gran Saga, which enjoyed a successful launch in Japan in 2021, only made its global debut in November 2024, surviving just six months before the decision to shut down was made.
The closure appears to stem from financial instability and challenges in sustaining a viable service. Despite an impressive start, Gran Saga struggled to establish itself in the highly competitive global market. The genre is dominated by established titles with loyal player bases, making it tough for new entries to succeed unless they offer something truly innovative. While the game had early success in Japan, this momentum did not translate internationally, resulting in an early exit.

This closure is part of a broader trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it was not the only one. Numerous other games have also succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market. With so many choices available, players often stick with familiar games, making it difficult for new or niche titles to survive in the long run.
For those who made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit an inquiry. However, refunds may not be possible if you have already used the items purchased or due to other store policies.
If you were a player in the world of Ethprozen, this farewell is undoubtedly tough, but unfortunately, it's becoming a common occurrence in the mobile gaming scene.
