Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) may eventually make its way to PC in the future, according to hints from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick and Rockstar Games' historical approach to game releases. Dive deeper into the potential future of GTA 6 and its ongoing development.
GTA 6 on PC Unconfirmed, But Take-Two Shows Interest

While GTA 6 has not been officially announced for PC, there are strong indications that it might be on the horizon. In a recent interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, Strauss Zelnick shared insights into Take-Two's platform strategy. He noted that while Civilization 7 will launch simultaneously on console and PC, other titles in their portfolio often follow a staggered release schedule.
Zelnick remarked, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms." This approach is evident in past releases like GTA 5, which debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, then on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar path, launching on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, and on PC in November 2019.
Although there's no confirmation yet, Zelnick's comments suggest a strong interest in eventually bringing GTA 6 to PC. Fans had hoped for a simultaneous PC release given the game's anticipated popularity, but historical patterns indicate a later PC launch.
Take-Two Confident About GTA 6 Sales Across All Platforms

Zelnick emphasized the increasing significance of the PC as a gaming platform, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He stated, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."
Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes that major releases like GTA 6 can boost console sales, saying, "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles."
He further elaborated, "And I think that will happen this year. I don't think tariffs are going to be our friend, but I think there will be a meaningful uptick in console sales in calendar 25 because of the release schedule, not just coming from us, but coming from others. So I'm not concerned about that [console sales falling]. I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."
GTA 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date has been announced. Stay updated with the latest news on our Grand Theft Auto 6 page.
More Take-Two and Rockstar Games Possibly Releasing on Switch 2

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about expanding their game lineup to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He highlighted their long-standing relationship with Nintendo and noted that the Switch's audience has evolved. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," he stated.
He further explained that the Switch 2's capabilities now cater to a broader audience, saying, "the Switch device can support any audience." With the launch of Civilization 7 on the Switch, Zelnick indicated a positive outlook: "As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch."
