Harrison Ford: 'Indiana Jones Proves AI Isn't Needed to Capture My Soul'

May 06,2025 Author: Hunter

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of the beloved character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent." He praised Baker's performance, emphasizing that it was achieved through genuine talent rather than AI technology.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, offers an authentic experience within the long-standing series, though it may not be considered part of the official canon. This game's positive reception contrasts sharply with the lukewarm response to the 2023 film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," the first new film in the series in years. Given the game's success, the franchise's creators might consider focusing more on this new direction rather than bringing Ford back to reprise his role.

Ford, known for his roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and upcoming Marvel projects, joins a growing list of creatives who are critical of AI's use in media. Notable figures like Tim Burton have described AI-generated art as "very disturbing," while Nicolas Cage has labeled it a "dead end." Voice actors have also voiced their concerns, with Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" criticizing a chatbot that mimicked his voice, and Doug Cockle, the voice of "The Witcher," warning IGN that AI is "inevitable" yet "dangerous," as it could deprive voice actors of their livelihoods.
