Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer

The Hill Troll lurks within a cave nestled on the mountainside in Bahlgar. The easiest access point is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar as you would to fight Beastmen, but instead of dropping down to their area, follow the mountain's edge. Pass the two platinum deposits, and the cave entrance should be visible on one of the mountain's flanks. You'll need to jump into this opening—preferably while mounted—to reach the cave. While it might seem tricky initially, it becomes second nature with practice. See our GIF for a visual guide (we even joined a group battle!).

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quest

Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss—one you'll likely encounter repeatedly.

Teamwork is key; don't tackle the Hill Troll solo. Its attacks are predictable and dodgeable, but a group (at least one other player) significantly improves your odds. Many players farm the Troll, making group encounters common. Fortunately, it respawns in just 90 seconds after defeat.

The Hill Troll attacks with a massive pillar. Its attacks are slow but powerful; you can parry and block most, but its two-handed overhead pillar swing is a stun attack—dodge that one! Consistent damage can stagger the Troll. Warrior class players will find their Counter ability particularly effective for stunning it.

While rare equipment drops are possible, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Troll Hides are crucial for crafting solid endgame equipment, sufficient for preparing you for tougher bosses like the Mother Spider.

The Troll Head is a quest item for the repeatable Hodor quest. Hourly, you can trade a Troll Head to Hodor (located near the cave) for a chance at powerful random loot. Farming the Hill Troll makes this quest a worthwhile side activity.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?

No, taming the Hill Troll is impossible, even for Beast Tamer Archers. While not a raid boss, its size and nature make it unsuitable as a pet. Its immense size likely prevents it from even leaving its cave. For Beast Tamer Archers, the trusty Mud Crab remains your best bet.
