Hyper Light Breaker offers a diverse roster of characters, each with unique playstyles, to tackle the Abyss King. Unlocking these Breakers is relatively straightforward, though the game doesn't explicitly explain the process. This guide details all currently available characters and how to acquire them (note: this guide reflects the early access version; more characters may be added later).
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Unlocking new characters requires Abyss Stones, which drop exclusively from Crowns (bosses). To challenge Crowns, you'll first need Prisms—keys to boss arenas—indicated by golden diamond icons on the map.
After defeating a Crown, return to the Cursed Outpost's teleporter. Select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your accumulated Abyss Stones to add them to your playable roster. While nine characters exist in the game, currently only two are unlockable via this Abyss Stone method. The unlock method for future characters remains unconfirmed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character begins with a SyCom—a key item defining base stats and core perks, shaping their playstyle. Here's a breakdown of each character and their unique abilities:
Vermillion
Vermillion, the starting character, defaults to the Gunslinger SyCom, favoring ranged combat. Critical hits with Rail shots guarantee a subsequent crit. Alternatively, his unlockable Tank SyCom rewards perfect parries with increased armor, offering superior defense and melee stats.
Lapis
Lapis also starts with a Rail-focused SyCom, Lightweaver, boosting Rail shot damage after collecting Batteries. Her unique Warrior SyCom increases core stats with each upgrade, making her exceptionally powerful late-game.
Goro
Goro is a ranged glass cannon. His Astrologer SyCom accelerates Blade skill charging while shooting, while the unlockable Sniper SyCom significantly boosts critical hit rate. High damage potential comes at the cost of fragility; mastering his playstyle is key to success.
