There was a significant effort by Insomniac Games to develop Resistance 4, but unfortunately, the project did not receive the go-ahead. As Insomniac Games founder and outgoing president Ted Price steps into retirement after an impressive 30-year tenure at the studio, he's been sharing insights in various interviews. In a recent chat with Kinda Funny Games, Price was asked about a favorite game concept that never came to fruition, and he revealed it was Resistance 4.
According to Price, the team pitched *Resistance 4* with a concept they were deeply passionate about. However, due to timing and market considerations, the project didn't move forward. Price expressed enthusiasm about expanding the *Resistance* universe further, highlighting its unique alternate history setting where the narrative involving the Chimera aliens could unfold in countless intriguing ways. The Resistance series, developed by Insomniac following their success with Ratchet and Clank, consists of three first-person shooter games set in an alternate history where aliens invade the UK in 1951. These titles were released exclusively for the PlayStation 3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects, including Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank games.
Earlier this year, Price announced his retirement from Insomniac Games. He has appointed Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang as Co-Studio Heads to succeed him.
Insomniac's latest release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has recently been made available on PC, and the studio is currently working on Marvel’s Wolverine as their next project.
