Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Diversity is a Result of Being "As Accurate As Possible"
Warhorse Studios’ Developers Just Want To Make A Cool Video Game

Warhorse Studios’ developers are frustrated with the ongoing criticism of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, emphasizing their desire to create an engaging video game. In a recent interview with PC Gamer on February 3, 2025, KCD2’s PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling shared his thoughts on the backlash the game has faced due to its increased diversity.
Stolz-Zwilling remarked, "We've been labeled in various ways over the years, and it seems like there's always someone trying to define us. We're just focused on making a great video game." This statement comes in response to fan and critic feedback regarding the inclusion of LGBTQ+ content and other elements perceived as "woke."
Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner echoed these sentiments, noting that the team is not the source of the controversy. "The loudest voices are often the least satisfied," he commented.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Diversity

Set in Kuttenberg, KCD2 features a more diverse setting than its predecessor. Bittner explained, "Kuttenberg, as the royal mint, naturally attracts people from various ethnic backgrounds." As the second most significant city in Bohemia and a financial hub, Kuttenberg draws individuals from across the world, contributing to its rich diversity.
Bittner highlighted the game's inclusion of diverse cultural elements, such as characters from Italy, German-speaking individuals, and a Jewish quarter. He stressed the importance of representing not just these groups but also their unique worldviews, which he feels are often underrepresented in media claiming diversity.
Stolz-Zwilling clarified that the game's content was not influenced by their publishers, Plaion or Embracer, but rather by community feedback. "Every element we've included has been meticulously researched and verified," he stated.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Pre-Orders Unaffected By Recent Backlash
Warhorse Studios has addressed rumors about players requesting refunds for KCD2 pre-orders amid the backlash. KCD2 Writer Daniel Vávra used a Twitter (X) post to clarify that the game's sales-return ratio remains unchanged despite the controversy. He noted that KCD2's position on Steam charts was affected not by the backlash but by discounts on nine other popular games, which also impacted pre-order sales for Monster Hunter: Wilds.
In January 2025, Vávra faced criticism for KCD2's queer representation, leading to rumors about the game being banned in Saudi Arabia due to unskippable LGBT+ scenes. Vávra refuted these rumors, emphasizing the game's role-playing nature. "In KCD2, players make choices and face consequences that reflect the morals and social norms of the time," he explained.
