Surfer Jay is a valuable recruit you can find in Honolulu. His base stats are notably higher than those of other early-game members, making him a great asset to your crew. However, recruiting him involves a bit of sailing and a unique challenge.
Start your journey by docking your ship at Madlantis. Once there, head to the tent opposite the Madlantis Golf Range, where you’ll find a variety of arcade games and claw machines. Look for the UFO Catcher Game, which may contain a blue plush called "Kraken-Chan." If Kraken-Chan isn’t available, speak to the attendant under the tent and request a prize switch in the machine.
Winning Kraken-Chan from the claw machine can be tricky and may require multiple attempts. Ensure you have enough cash before you start playing. The best strategy is to use the claw to nudge the plush until it falls into the prize slot. Once you’ve secured Kraken-Chan, return to your ship, the Goromaru, and sail back to Honolulu.

This gesture will convince Surfer Jay to join your crew, and his base stats will be displayed. While Surfer Jay doesn’t offer unique perks as a First Mate or Boarding Squad Leader, he’s essential for completionists looking to fully assemble their crew.
