New Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy Set Reveals Over a Dozen Cards

May 12,2025 Author: Sophia

June may seem distant, but for fans of Magic: The Gathering eagerly anticipating the upcoming Final Fantasy set, the wait is now a bit more bearable. Today, Wizards of the Coast unveiled an exciting sneak peek at over a dozen brand-new cards from the set, featuring iconic characters like Sephiroth, Yuffie, Cecil, Garland, Chaos, and more. This reveal is a thrilling appetizer to hold fans over until the full release.

The first look showcases a variety of new cards, along with several art variations. In addition to the four commander cards we've already seen—Tidus, Cloud, Y'shtola, and Terra—we now have a glimpse at other powerful legendaries such as Sephiroth and Cecil. The set also introduces a new Food token art and art variations on cards like Stilzkin, Moogle Merchant; Sin, Spira's Punishment; and Summon: Shiva. You can explore the full gallery below:

Today's reveal also highlights some special features of the set. One notable addition is Summons, a part of Magic's first-ever Saga creatures, which players can call upon for aid in battle, as exemplified by Summon: Shiva in the gallery. Moreover, double-faced cards make a comeback, with Cecil showcasing his dual nature as both a Dark Knight and a Redeemed Paladin.

The Final Fantasy set will boast over 100 legendary creature cards, including 55 legendary borderless cards, some of which are illustrated by fan-favorite artists from across Final Fantasy's rich history. This set is not just a collector's dream but also a fully draftable, Standard-legal set that will launch on June 13. Alongside the main set, four preconstructed Commander decks will be released, each themed around a different Final Fantasy game: 6, 7, 10, and 14. These decks will contain 100 cards each, blending new Final Fantasy cards with existing cards featuring new Final Fantasy art, offering a unique and immersive gaming experience for fans of both Magic and Final Fantasy.
