Marvel Rivals is set to enhance its gameplay with exciting updates for its upcoming 2nd season, including new team-up skills and fresh skins for iconic characters like Spiderman and Iron Man. Dive in to discover what NetEase has planned.
Marvel Rivals Game Director Guangyun Chen has revealed that significant changes to team-up skills are on the horizon for Season 2. In a recent interview with PC Gamer on March 14, Chen detailed the team's vision for the game's next big update.
He stated, "Starting from Season 2, we will introduce new Team-Up skills with the seasonal update and adjust some existing ones. Together with seasonal overall balance adjustments, this will create a new combat environment and experience for the season."
Currently, the game features 17 team-up skills, including Ragnarok Rebirth for Hela with either Loki or Thor, Lunar Force for Cloak & Dagger and Moon Knight, and Allied Agents for Hawkeye and Black Widow. With the game's roster expanding, balancing these skills will be an intriguing challenge for NetEase.
Chen elaborated on the approach to balancing heroes in Marvel Rivals as new characters are added. He explained, "First, we will closely monitor key metrics for heroes across different modes. For example, in Quick Match and Competitive Modes, we will analyze data such as win rates, pick rates, damage, healing, damage taken, and final blows for heroes at various ranks and in different tournaments. This data serves as the foundation for our balancing efforts."
He added, "At the same time, we will analyze the composition of hero lineups and their win rates within the aforementioned modes, which will be crucial references for our overall balancing direction. Finally, we will pay close attention to the player community as one of the bases for our balancing decisions."
Chen had previously mentioned in a January interview with Metro that the game would introduce a new hero every half-season. With each season lasting approximately three months, Marvel Rivals aims to add eight new heroes annually. As the game's roster grows, the challenge of maintaining balance becomes increasingly complex.
Chen also confirmed that preparations for future updates are well underway, stating, "The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have also been completed and are currently under intensive development! Overall, everything is progressing smoothly." This aligns with NetEase's commitment to support Marvel Rivals for 10 years and beyond, promising fans a steady stream of engaging updates.
NetEase announced via Marvel Rivals' official Twitter (X) account on March 18 that new skins for Spiderman and Iron Man will be available starting March 20 at 7 PM PDT / 10 PM EDT / March 21 at 2:00 AM UTC. Spiderman's "Spider-Punk 2099" skin features a futuristic look with a digital mask, spiked mohawk, and an electric guitar. Meanwhile, Iron Man's "Steam Power" skin adopts a steampunk aesthetic, complete with large exhaust pipes and a burning furnace on his torso.
These skins were highly anticipated after being showcased during the game's closed beta. Following the release of Loki’s Presidential attire from the beta, these new additions are set to excite fans. Although the release date has been confirmed, the prices for these skins have yet to be disclosed.
As Season 1 nears its conclusion, NetEase is preparing for the launch of Season 2, promising more updates and enhancements. Marvel Rivals is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news by following our coverage below!
